‘Lootcase’ is an earnest effort with regards to two things: bring to light the travesty of greed, and life in general. But, with the writers, Kapil Sawant and Rajesh Krishnan, falling prey to the need to take the safe route and inculcate the tried-and-tested formulas of this genre, honestly, the film didn’t show much promise.

For sure, Raat Akeli Hai isn't only about the writing and the acting. The other inputs, too, are of the highest order. The film is lit and lensed with exceptional skill by cinematographer Pankaj Kumar. Every frame, composed with precise purpose, serves to accentuate or regulate the moment and its defining mood. And the editing by A. Sreekar Prasad is so masterful that not a minute of the two-and-a-half-hour film feels expendable.

Is this film as good as C/o Kancharapalem is a question that might be on many minds, especially seeing as how both are slice-of-life dramas. Maha ensures to make this film his own, even if the source material isn’t his and the effort shows, especially when characters discuss about bamboo chicken losing its authenticity and collect mustard flowers that Araku is dotted with in a particular season.
